The bad times outnumber the good

You should feel secure and content in your relationship at least eighty percent of the time. If you can’t remember the last time you actually had fun together without arguing or things getting fraught it could be time to pack your bags.

They constantly put you down

A bit of friendly teasing is cute, but if your other half seems to get their kicks from making you the butt of all their jokes or belittling you in public, alarm bells should definitely be ringing. Putting someone down – especially in front of others - is a power game that you should play no part in.

They refuse to talk things through

All relationships hit rocky patches, but if your partner deals with things by shutting down and giving you the ultimate passive-aggressive silent treatment you’re never going to be able to work through your issues together. It’s time to move on.

Little things get on your nerves

Okay, so it’s annoying when he/she leaves the cap off the toothpaste or forgets to put the milk back in the fridge, but those aren’t deal breakers. They take you for granted

You disagree about the future

If you’re in continual disagreement about major life choices that lie ahead such as whether or not to start a family together, you need to think carefully about your next move. Hanging around hoping to change their mind is a risky gamble.

They forget important stuff

No matter how busy or stressed your other half is, there’s no excuse for forgetting important things like your birthday, anniversary…or name! It’s a forewarning of further neglect to come.

You can’t stand their friends

The company a person keeps says a lot about them. Feeling uncomfortable or unwelcome around the people he or she holds dear is an early indicator of friction and tension in years to come.

There’s no spark

Cast your mind back to when you first started dating. Were you excited every time you heard from them? And are you now? Those in lasting relationships still get a rush when their lover sends them a text or gives them a call. If you no longer do, we seriously doubt they’re the one.

They don’t like your family

If they love you, they need to be accepting of those you hold dear too. If they make snide remarks about your family or behave rudely towards them, it doesn’t bode well for your future happiness together.

A Different Kind of Strength

I am so blessed these past 4 days because I have gain a different kind of strength, a strength that only the Lord can give. We spent quality time together with my husband who at all times very supportive to me. That treatment did something in my body. I am claiming that I will soon be cleared with this overactive immune system in Jesus Name.

Well I am now home spent nearly 11 days in hospital and fortunate enough to be able to spend new year at home. I have an over active immune system that can damage my kidney so I am taking medications to suppress it. I now go to the Renal Clinic every week because I need to be properly monitored. I am blessed that my kidney was able to recover from 50 percent function on my biopsy to 87 percent on discharge. I am just very bored at home. Too weak to do the chores. Just trying to recover and starting to feel the meds side effects. Praise God for this another chance. I didn't have to go dialysis. I now believe that there are things that God wants me to do for him. I strongly believe this. I just consider this as a long period holiday from work and still gets paid. Made me realize that life is too short to grumble. I was so good at this you see. Lesson learn for me. So for you people out there, make your life meaningful and learn to give thanks to the creator that you wake up every morning looking forward for the day ahead of you.

I am sorry that I can't post happy christmas photos in here because our christmas wasn't all that fancy. We celebrated our christmas in the hospital for I needed to stay there for a while. I got admitted last monday. I called the ambulance because all of sudden it was so hard to breathe. I was praying they would get to me very quick and they did. Immediately I was taken to Hammersmith Hospital Accidents and Emergencies. All along I thought I developed an asthma because of a very bad flu. I was on oxygen. The doctors has done so many tests until they found out that my kidneys are releasing proteins and I already have lost a lot. They told me I have Systematic Lupus Erythematosus. It is very common in women my age with an Asian/oriental background. They know it is in my genes but they just don't understand what really triggers it. I must admit I am a bit scared because I never heard of this so this is why it made me research and I was truly convince that I have it because all the symptoms is happening to me. I will be scheduled for biopsy this Monday, I am actually ready for the weekend but the doctor said it is holiday season and only few people are working, it is better to wait till Monday. The doctors assured me that this is the right hospital for my kidney problem and after all this I will be continuously be monitored by the kidney clinic. I wish I don't stay in the hospital for very long and will be released by Wednesday or Thursday.

Ipagmamalaki ko lang po sana na kasya pa ako sa aking wedding gown. 2 years narin po kaming kasal kaya nacurious po ako kung kakasya pa ba ako sa wedding gown ko. I am so pleased buti naman at nagkasya pa naman at maluwang pa nga.... Walang biro po ito totoo talagang pumayat ako. Hindi na ako kasing bilog ng katawan ko 2 years ago. Ang hubby ko naman po automatic kumuha ng camera katuwaan lang namin sa bahay, mahirap talaga pag wala lang magawa.

Christmas Decorations

Sino lang ba ang may karapatan na magdecorate sa pasko?!!! Yun lang bang merong mga anak?!! Plano ko kasing bumili ng christmas tree pero at the back of my mind sayang lang ang pera pambili. Wala pa naman kaming mga chikiting so walang makaka appreciate sa christmas tree. Gusto kung magpaka positive. This year kami nagkaroon ng bahay, so dapat lang talaga magcelebrate kami para masaya naman. I'm sure ganito din ang feeling ng aking husband, medyo nanghihinayang sa perang pambili. Meron din naman din alternative na decoration. Meron mga flowers kahit ano basta pula hehehe, or mga santa.... yung mga ornaments lang... Pero parang kulang ano kung walang tree. Well, abangan nalang. Bukas pa talaga kami magdedecide kung bibili ba kami or hindi. Depende nalang sa mood namin. Isa lang ang sure ako pwede na kaming bumili ng sofa at bed frame. Ilang months narin kaming nagtitiis na walang frame ang matress namin eh. Nag iipon pa kasi. Walang budget. So super excited ako sa good news na ito. Meron naring mauupuan ang mga bisita namin sa bahay na medyo maayos ayos na sofa. Merry Christmas nalang sa inyo mga kapatid! Sana kompleto din ang pamilya ninyo sa pasko. God Bless!

Dumb and Dumber!

I just finished chatting with my bro in Philippines catching up with him. Discussing his plans for christmas. I had a chance to ask about how my mama is doing and he said she is fine. He told me she is stopping him from working far from davao because she don't want to be left alone. In the back of my mind, I do understand the situation, it is just two of them there now so it's hard to loose another one. I am blessed to have a very cool understanding brother. Though I maybe here in London, though I wanted to give him more than what he already have but still I don't hear any complains from him. He understands I am just a worker and can only give a little. By the grace of God, next year I take authority that I may be able to help him financially in his schooling...Give him a better future that no one else can give him. I thank God that he is currently earning money for himself, this makes me feel proud for I was like him back then. I am sorry that his life is like this and I am far. It wasn't suppose to end up like this. I believe the Lord has plans for him. I believe the Lord will show him the right path for his success. That's why I don't stop helping him, He has learned the hard way but I couldn't turn back time now. He was a typical adolescent man when I left but now things has change. He is the man of the house for my dad is in heaven now. He learned to rise up and be strong in troubled times. I hope he knows I appreciate what he is doing for mama, looking after her. Don't worry my brother. God is good. You will never know his plans is better than my plans for you.... I love you!take care!

Bus 207 (A journey from shepherds bush to ealing)

Have you ever taken a journey on this bus?! Well I always take this bus to go home. I always go from the starting point which is the shepherds bush bus station, why? because I want to take my favorite seat on that bus, where? first seat on the left side of the bus driver, hehehe. Everyone likes it Im telling you. Big nice seat plus you get a little compartment to put all your bags and shopping. Brilliant isnt it?! When I see that bus 207 coming to my stop I would definately prepare myself for a battle. Every lonely person likes that seat a lot so people battling to go first. There is no seat much better when you are alone. You gotta be careful choosing a seat because you might end up sitting with a stinking passenger. On a rush hour when everyone is standing up on this bus, a lot more than people sitting you cant avoid people who doesnt understand personal hygene and what it meant. Its so funny you see old people standing up and waiting for the younger ones to offer them their seat but instead they cover there faces with newspaper they read them so they can ignore old people. Another thing I notice you got to have a valid oyster card or a ticket when you take this coz every flippin bus stop of 207 have a ticket machine and bad news even if you have 2 pounds to give the driver he wont let you in!

My Hubby got me an IPOD TOUCH PLUS for my birthday!

I made it very clear to my husband that I definately want an IPOD for my birthday but which type of IPOD to get is another issue. Every time I finish work we go Westfield to check it out. So i thought of the shuffle because its cheap, but I don't want it because I can afford it might as well buy my own. Then I started considering the nano but it's small and it's common. The shop assistant recommended the touch plus because it has a huge screen for your mp4 files plus it can connect to your internet to check emails and other stuff. You can also play games and download good applications with it that you desire. I'm very happy he got it for me. It wasnt hard to convince him though. He knows I want it so much I've been dreaming of having it hehehe. Ok Ok Ok Im a bit exagerated. Anyway, I promise to look after it very well. The thing that I didn't like is that you have to buy the plug to the wall seperate from the whole package. It cost around £20.00. Duh! Oh by the way the IPOD touch cost £165.00 so that means its £185.00 all together.

One Job lost every five minutes in the capital

One job is lost in every five minutes here in London in the past 3 months as recession badly hit the city, they said its the highest rate on record for unemployment. The government statistics is showing the official jobless total stands at 348,000, a quarteryear rise of 28,000. Jobseekers are finding it tougher than ever to find work as job vacancies decrees. Right now there are 2.38 million people jobless in UK.

I don't really know how long the city will suffer from recession, with so many parents loosing jobs, I don't know how the families can cope. Are there still food on the table for children relying on their parents? I know families can ask for benefits but the real question is how far can the government support these families. How many families are there depending on government benefits and allowances? How many years before we can stand up and rise again with this recession? How many years ca our government support families too on this bad situation.

I'm thankful to have a job at this time when the rest are made redundant. It's scary but we do have faith in the Lord that he will look after us at tough times....

It was a sad story that welcomed me this morning when I open the television. They announce that Michael Jackson died 11pm UK time yesterday. I have to admit that Michael was a genius making up all those wonderful songs. I listen and learn to love some of his songs. I truly wish that wherever he is right now, that he would enjoy a peaceful sorrounding opposite to the crazy world he had here on earth. A tribute to the Pop King of his generation. Goodbye Michael and the people will remember you forever.

I am so happy that people are still visiting this humble blog eventhough I haven't been here. I got news for my friends, just a quick update. Due to recession I lost the job in the print ads. I saw this ad from the newspaper here that a co named CareUK is actually looking for community carers, even without experience because they're willing to train. I took the opportunity and applied. Luckily they accepted me but still have to wait for 3 months for test and trainings. They said they will also send me to school for free and will give me an opportunity to take NVQ Level 2 for social and health care. Isnt that so exciting??? I have been working for them for 2 months now and all my service users are very nice and easy. I'm still in 3 months probation but I think im doing well. My coordinator at the office is very nice and it was challenging at first dealing with different people. Different people with different needs, demands and preferences. I work hard just to deliver my service properly. So what do I do exactly? Well, they sent us rota every week, it contains names and address of our clients. It also contains hours and task that we need the work to be delivered. I am a community care worker aka care giver. I am serving older people depending on there needs. At first it was very tiring, because they'll just give you 5-15 mins gap to your next client but now that I know the drill I was able to cope to the pressure. We also do double ups meaning 2 carers work for one person, in this case our service user is probably paralyzed. I belong to the Hammersmith and Fulham branch at the moment.

The good news now is i'm blogging regularly not that I think I can really make it but I will try my best. I'll give you updates on what's going on here in London. I was alarmed when I saw on the London newspaper that atheist can afford to pay an advert on a double decker bus pictured below. I am proud to be a believer and it bothers me a lot that there are still people who refuse to believe that Jesus Christ is the God of Gods, Lord of Lords and King of Kings. He gave his only son for our sins to be forgiven and to be reunited with him. People are becoming too intelligent I guess that they want to make their own rules nowadays, they deny Lord Jesus Christ exist. This is not true. We may have difficult problems left and right but this was permitted for us to be broken or hurting so we will call out for him. He is our only saviour. He is the same today and tomorrow. He always keeps his promise. Just call for his name and he will always be there. Please let us not support this type of propaganda. As a believer we should know better and be more open to people the message of the Lord for all of us. His word is trully a blessing for everyone. If the Atheist were not really bothered, why pay for this advert? It's getting too obvious that you feel threathened by my GOD!

That's right! My first time and so far it's been good. They said it's gonna be too cold this December. The coldest so far in London history. Well, I can still manage to have a shower in the morning and come out in there without blow drying my hair. It's just me. It gives me headache if I don't do this. I get headaches at work coz of the heater. Which means I am not really used to it. Now that it's winter time it's been a bit boring. I miss the sunshine and the humid weather. It doesnt mean though that fashion is nowhere at this time of the year. I am the practical lady you know, I go for Primark hehehe... Being fashionista doesnt necessary means that it's expensive. My first christmas here and I'll be missing my family back home. I had fun looking at real christmas trees being sold at the market because it's not normal for me. I got so use to fake ones we used to buy at the mall. hehehehe. It cost around £20.00-30.00 and in my opinion not very practical. You'll just throw it anyway after. So what's the point. I did my christmas shopping last saturday but the weather wasnt good. It was raining the whole day but it didnt stop people from walking along oxford st. to shop.

Like a lot of filipinos here in London supporting their families back home, I too, is suffering from the credit crunch. As far as I can remember it has never gone down to 80 but today it is 73 pesos for a pound (GBP). I have spoken to my family on skype and they have a lot of demands especially this christmas season is approaching. I desire to give them more than what they have asked for but I just can't. We are living in central London and this is indeed an expensive city to live in. I hope soon, it will go back to the usual rate so they can enjoy more shopping. I bet other OFW here in London will agree with me.

I am pissed off today because people forced me to do things that I don't really want to do today. I'd be honest I really don't want to go to church today because I wanna have a relaxing day and plus I'm not feeling well. Some people just can't understand it and they run my life according to there ways, I don't wanna be bias but this is only according to my judgement. I felt like I was forced to do what I don't feel like doing because they think there some sort of somebody that should be followed. Well as a matter of fact i don't give a **** to whatever they say. To continue my story I was very uncomfortable because of the cold weather it triggered my sinusitis and just a fact that I don't really like going is uncomfortable enough. There you go I was teary eyed and I felt weak the whole service. It's not funny when you just feel like punching somebodys face and you can't do it because you got self control. Well if they might read this they will surely be offended but who cares. Thank you to them that after the service it became very cold and it did rain and the bus is running late so we have to wait for ages in the cold. Something not very good to a poor person like me suffering from sinus but then again I wish they are very satisfied with there selfish acts and still wish them well... They wouldnt feel it because they don't work the next day. As for me I go to work and it's pissing me off being sick. I tried to be in control of my anger but this person really wouldnt stop bothering my life. For me it's a pain in the ass, a very bad headache I can't stand anymore. So later that evening they were calling me to eat, and I told them that I'm still watching something on the internet so just go ahead and eat and I'll be fine. They just wouldnt stop you know. They keep on calling my name again and again and I said just leave me alone. I am loosing patience. They couldnt seem to understand the word NO and they just simply cant accept to be refused. It's so funny really. They just can't accept a NO for an answer. It's not a part of their vocabulary or they never heard of it or it's either that THEY DON'T RESPECT ME AS A PERSON otherwise I can't think of any other reason. I FEEL ABUSED BY THIS. I AM LOOSING MY PATIENCE.

Chilly Autumn

I am very pleased that I still get visits eventhough I am too busy lately and couldnt find time to update this blog of mine. It is indeed autumn in London and I wish I could share the view with my family back home how marvelous it is to see the color of my surroundings. I feel sorry for the caretakers who needs to sweep the leaves in the park. It is very cold in an autumn morning here. It is always like this you see. There is sunshine during the day and yet it is windy and cold. At the end of my day, the sky becomes dark and soon it will rain. For me, life has become a repetitive but I don't really mind. Holland Park

Well for most people here in London, Holland Park for them is one of the great parks in the city. As a matter of fact, this park becomes too crowded when the sun is up during weekends. It's the best place to hang out really. You can sleep under the sun. Read your newly bought book. Play cards with your friends or just play ball in the ground. Fantastic place for family to get together. Holland Park happens to be walking distance from work so you 'd probably have a hint where I hang out after work on a saturday. I need not say anything.... let my pictures will say it all.

The OFW (overseas Filipino worker), who used to be known as OCW (overseas contract worker), is now an integral part of our national culture and consciousness — as Pinoy as pakbet and adobo. It is a cultural template that came to be primarily because our country could not — and still cannot — provide enough employment for its citizens. People have had to find jobs abroad to earn enough to clothe, feed and care for their constantly growing families that, to add to their problems, their faith discourages them from keeping small.

OFWs have been dubbed by the very system that created them as “heroes” for bringing home dollars that provide much needed economic benefits to their families and, consequently, to the system itself. And while they may in fact be a big factor why our country has not collapsed despite the culture of inertia, corruption and government mismanagement that plague it, OFWs are, in their own view, reluctant heroes, to be sure.

One, most of them really have no choice but to go abroad for lack of opportunities here. Two, many of them will abandon the “hero” label in a heartbeat if they can simply find some way to feed their families and stay in the Philippines at the same time. We know that they and their loved ones pay too high a price for the economic benefits they enjoy. And this includes being away from their loved ones and missing out as their family stories are written. They are absent from family pictures, albums, house blessings, graduations, births, birthdays, anniversaries and family reunions because ironically, they have to earn their money elsewhere to finance all this.

They have children who are fed and clothed but are orphaned of at least one parent. Their main consolation is, at least, the people they love are experiencing these wonderful economic benefits even if they cannot physically be part of it and enjoying with them.

I have met many OFWs during my travels abroad and even now that I live parttime in Sydney. I have observed that as much as they are the providers and the sustainers of life back home they, too, need care and sustenance which many of them hardly get. A lot of them complain about being trapped or doomed to being lonely and missing out on life just so their loved ones can have a better life.

This article is about the caring and encouragement these reluctant heroes, who up hold the sky up for our families and our society, need on their end. Here are a few things to keep in mind when relating to the fathers, mothers, kuyas, ates, uncles, aunts and other relatives who have left us temporarily to keep the rest of us alive.

1. Relate to them as people, not just as providers.

Many times, the relationship between OFWs and their families back home is sadly reduced to an almost solely economic one. A lot of OFWs complain that most of the time, they only hear from the beneficiaries of their hard-earned salaries when the roof needs fixing, the tuition needs paying, someone is sick, or a relative needs money. They feel like slaves trapped in a cycle of backbreaking work in order to grant their families’ wishes.

Although I live abroad, I’m what you may call an OFW in reverse. A big part of my family is in Sydney, and I come quite often to Manila to earn and pay for the house, schooling, food, electricity, etc. As an “Aussie W,” as Danny Javier likes to call me, I go through the same loneliness and deprivation that regular OFWs go through, although not as intensely and desperately. At least I am able to go back every few months and stay for a few weeks unlike the majority who go home only once every year or two and stay only for a couple of weeks.

2. Find more things to write or communicate to them about other than asking for money.

The main loss that OFWs feel is the deprivation of affection from their loved ones. It starts off as a physical loss which they and their families feel initially. After a while, when the dust has settled and the reality sets in that the relative will be gone for quite a while, indifference can creep in. Families can get used to their member being far away, leading to an alienation that can be most painful especially for the person who is away.

A soon-to-be-released documentary I watched a few days ago showed a group of Filipino teachers employed in the United States who felt a lot of frustration while doing video chats with their families. Apart from presenting a list of things they needed financed, many of their family members had little else to talk to them about.

Things changed dramatically when one of the teachers committed suicide due to sheer loneliness. After that, the family video chats became less of an asking or begging session, and more of a genuine exchange of love and caring. This is what OFWs miss the most. So make sure they are kept in the loop and abreast of what’s going on in everyone’s lives.

3. Constantly shower the OFW with gratitude.

There is nothing more gratifying than being appreciated for the sacrifices one makes. A simple, heartfelt “thank you” from a loved one can be profoundly uplifting to someone who is feeling the alienation and meaninglessness of living in some foreign place. It can give one a sense of purpose, direction and reward for a job well done. Gratitude can be a tonic that revitalizes the OFW to continue working under lonely, stressful conditions.

4. Don’t blame them for being away.

Many times, the pain OFWs feel can be a double whammy. Not only is it difficult to be away from their families, it hurts them even more when they are blamed for everything that is wrong with their relationships with their loved ones. Everything is dumped on their lap because they are not present to fix things. While their absence may very well be a factor in why certain things are wrong, e.g. why his son has taken to drugs, why the daughter failed in school or ran away, why the family was cheated of its savings, or whatever else can go wrong, it does not really help the situation to pin the accusation solely or needlessly on someone who is helpless at the moment because he is abroad and is therefore not in a position to fix things.

Instead of blaming, families could attempt to engage one another, including the overseas member in a serious conversation about what together they can do about the situation.

5. Encourage them to get a life outside of work.

While the OFW may not really choose to live abroad but for necessity, it can be a great learning opportunity to learn a new language, understand a new culture, meet new friends and enrich one’s life overall. Many people on both sides of the fence, at home and abroad, mistakenly tend to view the situation largely as one of pure sacrifice with little joys to anticipate wherever one is.

That’s really too bad because being abroad can be a great learning experience in independence, creativity, culture, adjustment and discovery. I’ve been amazed at how some of our countrymen have built happy lives in remote, seemingly inhospitable cultures. It is wonderful how they can make something good out of a bad situation.

For families at home, it is OK to encourage the OFW to pursue personal growth and happiness. Some may worry that growth or embracing their situation can cause them to be estranged from their significant others back home. That can be a valid worry. While it is necessary to remind them to be anchored to the family, it is also important to slacken just a bit the chains or ties that bind.

6. Don’t forget to greet them on their birthdays, Christmas, New Year, Father’s Day, etc.

These special days may not seem as special or have the same urgency to the people at home, but believe me, to the one who left and is living in some alien place, to be forgotten on a special day is a pain that can induce overwhelming sadness. This is especially true when all the other Filipinos they work with receive greetings, gifts and calls from their loved ones back home.

7. Put aside some of the money the OFW sends home for a rainy day.

Many families who are beneficiaries of the OFW’s blood, sweat and tears have the attitude that daddy or mommy, kuya or ate will always provide. Thus they spend on trivial unimportant things and are caught flatfooted when the job contract is not renewed and the money runs out. They soon discover that all that sacrifice was for naught and they are all back where they started!

8. When they come home, make sure to be around for them and for events where the returning relative can experience the family life he or she has missed.

Many OFWs come home for that rare visit looking forward to family bonding, only to discover that the people he wants to spend time with are busy, or worse, not interested to be with him/her. They discover that they have become strangers to their families and only token greetings and affection are accorded them. They do not feel integrated, only accommodated. Their presence after a long absence may even be seen as disruptive to the household’s daily routine.

This can be a big disappointment and may even discourage the OFW from coming home as often. Losing a reason to come home is a tragedy that he and his family can ill afford.

The OFW phenomenon is here to stay. Thank God modern communication can somehow ease its alienating effects on families. But even as we learn to live with it, we should continually find ways to keep OFW families from becoming dysfunctional despite the absence of some of its members. The family is one of our nation’s stronger institutions, our joy and our treasure. We owe it to ourselves and our countrymen to keep it intact, even under the worst of circumstances.

Well now that it's summer time we always enjoy going near River Thames and fly a kite. Out of curiousity and ignorance I was wondering what my nephews were throwing to each other and hubby said it's an apple. I hurriedly went to the Apple tree and this is was a young tree but already bears fruits. My college friends are the coolest friends on earth. Ever since college days even after college we remain close and in contact with each other. I was happy to receive the letter from Home Office to confirm that they already receive my application. I need not to worry about anything now and besides I have sent the form under a registered mail. All I need to wait now is the result of my application. It's been boring without my nephews and nieces around the house. Too bad they have to be in the PI now. Now we have to look after Fudge (their pet dog). I receive a mail also from Metropolitan Police apologizing for the incident of assault where my husband got involve. Funny because I never experienced that in the PI before. We should start something like this in the PI. To build up our confidence with the Policemen.

After all the pressure first week of May, we are finally now resting. I just arrived from our honeymoon in Wales and we enjoyed it. It's always nice to spend time alone with yor hubby away from everybody else. The only thing that matters is me and my husband. We enjoyed every minute, every hour of our honeymoon. I finally get to see castles and ramsey island. Now that were back in London, it is now back to reality. We have to face the important issues that we need to deal with, one of these is my status here. I am now actually reviewing for an exam next friday for Life in the UK test. I am praying to pass this important exam. Who said its going to be easy? I know we can go through it. I know I was away from my laptop for so many weeks now I couldnt count. For me, its all about adjusting. I am now in a different stage where I should be caring about the most important person in my life instead of my laptop and blogging habits. I used to be an addict blogger, and look what happen to me now and I am enjoying it. I am starting to experience hardships of marriage life but its a career I always want to be in. When your just starting (im sure lots of wives out there have gone through)I know it's not going to be easy. Me and my husband is learning everyday. I am just happy I have him by my side and whatever worries me, I always share with him. Makes my worries lighter hehehe. I know from now on, you can hardly hear from me but that's ok. I have never imagine that it's going to be destroyed later. When I was there, I have seen so many tourist and business men. People are having coffee at the lobby. It is one of the popular hotels in Makati area. My boss prefers this hotel everytime he visits the Philippines. I feel bad because it wasnt really necessary to do it. If only people didnt go there and invaded this hotel. Hotel guest shouldnt have gone through all this mess. To Senator Antonio Trillanes, I voted for you because I think you are capable to be a senator in this country. I am sure you know that media will follow you there. I love my job. I was able to learn and acquire so many things related to my job. I already met my boss a year ago... He visited Davao and we worked together. For our second meeting this year, He sent me an eticket for Manila and set a meeting with him on his hotel. Me and rowena went to meet him. Here we go Fred, so exciting. Makes us feel so independent. Lakwatsa ever. The last time I went to Manila was last yr also, but we didnt experience the crazy taxi driver fees because we had a service then. Charge to experience. So ayun, super dami mga things to be done sa work. Kahit ako na nga I work sa bahay for 12 hours/day. Dollars now went down to $42.00. Saan na ba ang justice. The government is telling us that economy is getting better and better each year. I am loosing $ pero it seems like I can't feel it. Goods and services are still the same. Mahal parin naman. GALENGA TALAGA NIYA GYUD, UY!

How can one distinguish a Davaoeno to a Cebuano? Or
to a Cagayanon? Difficult? Easy. Davaoenos are one
of the most unique people in the world. We can
easily stand out if we are placed in a crowd of
Filipinos from other parts of the country. And how,
you say? Language.

Davao City, aptly called the melting pot of
cultures, is home to many
dialects. Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilonggo, Ilocano,
Chavacano, Moslem, Bicolano. Name it, we'll speak
it. If the Filipino language is a composition of all
the dialects and languages in the Philippines, you
might as well say that the language we speak in
Davao City is the real Filipino language, and not
Tagalog.

However, since it is a hodgepodge of different
tongues, it is sometimes funny to hear our language
"bastardizing" , for lack of better word, the other
dialects. Strangely, that distinguishes
us from the rest. Try these.

In stating a fact, Manilenos say, "Talagang mabait
si Weng." In Davao, we say. "Mabait bitaw gyud si
Weng". Too assertive? One asks, "Ano nga `yong
pangalan mo?". In Davao we say, "Ano
gani `yong pangalan (or worst, ngalan) mo?". When
somebody commits a mistake or surprises someone, we
always never fail
to say, "Halaka!". Duh.

We are fond of re-constructing the language. There's
the GI+ verb, such as,"Gisabi kasi ni Helen na
mag-absent si Bernerd bukas", or "Ginanon ni Lalai
si Belinda sa mukha". You'll never find "ginanon" in
any dictionary, I swear to God. There's the KA+
adjective, as in, "Kaputi gyud ng mukha ni
Yang-yang" or "Kapayat gyud ni Jason ngayon." The
MAKA+ verb form, such as, "Maka-inis talaga si
Albert, uy!" or "Maka-uwi talaga ako ng matagal
ngayon".
The NAG+ verb, as in,"Nagsabi kasi si Tita Prescy na
pupunta daw tayo ng airport" or "Hindi pa man siya
nagdating, uy!"

Adding new words or new meanings to old words to the
dictionary is one of our favorite past time. NAKIN:
"Alam man nakin `yan ba!", "Saan nakin kita nakita
gani?". KU-AN: "Ku-an daw ang gawin mo", "Si ku-an
kasi ano masyado". (No sense at all.)
ANO: "Na-ano ka diyan, Bryan!", "Ano man yan si Van,
uy!".
HA: "Lake-ha na ng tiyan ni Lulu uy!", "Gwapa-ha
niya uy!"
BEH: "Sige daw beh, dare!", "Pakipasa daw ng ballpen
ni Tzaris beh".
KAY: "Huwag na, Wowie, kay nandito naman si Norma",
"Umupo ka muna kay nasa-CR pa si Elma."

To express disgust over someone, we utter, "Gago
kaba diay para maniwala sa kanya", or "Ano man yan
siya uy!", or "Maka-inis man yan siya, uy!", or when
pestered when doing something, you'd
quip,"Huwag lagi ba!" On the other hand, when we
praise somebody's extra special deed or talent, our
Davaoeno tongue slips words like,"Kuyaw lagi `yan
siya!", "Galenga niya uy!", "Ayusa niya uy!",
"Kuyawa ni Orly uy!" or "Hindi ako makatu-o sa
ginawa niya!" . Hay, makatawa talaga. Ooops!

There are just so too many words to mention. Just
check out the words you spew everyday. Sometimes you
just laugh at yourself when you realize that you've
just said those very words. No matter
how long you stay in Manila or in the States, the
moment you're back to Davao, your tongue feels as at
home as you do. Language is the very soul of every
being. You just can't do anything about it. Or as
how we say it,"Anohin man natin yan?"

I appreciate people suggesting the best title for this blog. I didnt notice but some people really get confuse with the title. This blog has 2 different titles in mybloglog and blog catalog. I'm sure you've heard that Michael Vick will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges next Monday. More news is coming!

For your part in this campaign, thank you. More than 300,000 people responded to our calls for action with targeted e-mails, phone calls, and letters (and some even showed up in person to demonstrate!). The NFL and Vick's sponsors took notice—big time.

Your quick action not only will help ensure that Vick is held accountable for his cruel actions but will also help save other dogs from such a fate. You have spoken out loudly and clearly that this form of cruelty will not be tolerated any time, anywhere, or from anyone, superstar or not.

Vick and his cohorts are likely to go to prison. And Vick has been suspended from the National Football League indefinitely. His endorsement contracts have been voided. Nothing can bring those dogs back, but public outcry has ensured that the crimes haven't been swept under the rug and won't go unpunished.

Now, please, take one more action. PETA is calling on the NFL to add cruelty to animals—in all its forms—to its personal conduct policy. Please e-mail NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to ask him to update the NFL's policy with a statement that animal abuse will not be tolerated.

The best deterrent for players tempted by cowardly and cruel bloodsports is for them to know that their participation would mean professional ruin. If the NFL incorporates a no-tolerance policy for cruelty in its rules, we'll have taken a giant step toward eliminating one of the most vicious "sports" ever by removing the glamour of professional athletes associated with it. So please, e-mail the commissioner and ask your friends and family to do so as well. Right away.

Schedule Your Social Life

To hone your social skills you have to invest time in them. Practice makes perfect, even for the socially secure. By surrounding yourself with others you create a rich supply of opportunities to observe interactions and to improve upon your own social behaviors.

Stop turning down party invitations and start inviting people to your home. Plan outings with acquaintances you'd like to know better.

Think Positive

Insecure people approach others anxiously, feeling they have to prove that they're witty or interesting. Self-assured people expect others to respond positively--despite the fact that one of the most difficult social tasks is to join an activity that is already in progress.

Engage in Social Reconnaissance

The socially competent are highly skilled at information gathering, always scanning the scene for important details to guide their actions. They are tuned in to people's expression of specific emotions, sensitive to signals that convey such information as what people's interests are, whether they want to be left alone or whether there is room in an activity for another person.

To infer correctly what others must be feeling, you must be able to identify and label your own experience accurately. That is where many people, particularly men, fall short.

Good conversationalists make comments that are connected to what is said to them and to the social situation. You don't have to be interesting. You just have to be interested.

Enter Conversations Gracefully

Timing is everything. After listening and observing on the perimeter of a group they want to join, the socially competent look for an opportunity to step in, knowing it doesn't just happen. It usually appears as a lull in the conversation. Tuned in to the conversational or activity theme, the deft participant asks a question or elaborates on what someone else has already said. The idea is to use an open-ended question that lets others participate. "Speaking of the election, what does everybody think about so-and-so's decision not to run?"

Once the conversation gets moving, back off and give others a chance to talk. The goal is to help the group have a better conversation.

Learn to Handle Failure

Everyone will sometimes be rejected. The socially confident don't take rebuffs personally. They don't attribute rejection to internal causes, such as being unlikable or inability to make friends. They assume it can result from any of many factors--incompatibility, someone else's bad mood, a misunderstanding.

Self-assured people become resilient, using the feedback they get to shape another go at acceptance. When faced with failure, those who are well-liked turn a negative response into a counterproposal. They say things like, "Well, can we make a date for next week instead?" Or they move onto another group in the expectation that not every conversation is closed.

And should they reject others' bids to join with them, they do it in a positive way. They invariably offer a reason or counter with an alternative idea: "I would love to talk with you later."

Manage Your Emotions

Social situations are incredibly complex and dynamic. There's all kinds of verbal and nonverbal cues, such as facial expression and voice tone that have to be interpreted before you decide on the best response--all in a matter of microseconds. No one can do all that without a reasonable degree of control over their own emotional states, especially negative emotions such as anger, fear, anxiety, emotions that usually arise in situations of conflict or uncertainty. The trick is to shift attention away from distressing stimuli toward positive aspects of a situation.

Defuse Disagreements

Conflict is inevitable; coping with confrontations is a critical social skill. Instead of fighting fire with fire, socially confident people stop conflict from escalating; they apologize, propose a joint activity, make a peace offering, or negotiate. Sometimes they just change the subject. Managing conflict without aggression requires listening, communicating, taking the perspective of others, controlling negative emotions, and problem-solving. Even just explaining your point of view in an argument is a helpful move.

Laugh a Little

Humor is the most prized social skill, the fast track to being liked. There's no recipe for creating a sense of humor. But even in your darkest moments, strive to see the lighter side of a situation.

Being Right or Finding Peace? WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT?

What does it take to go beyond the cycle of action and reaction? On a daily basis I see guests at the Chopra Center caught in the trap of emotional turbulence. Boundaries crossed without permission generate pain.

The pain provokes a response that is intended to diminish the distress, but often generates a new round of anguish. Over time, conflicted relationships lead to festering emotional wounds, which manifest as physical distress and illness.

Almost always, there is historical validity to the stories we tell that explain our pain and grievance. The question we have to ask is whether the stories are serving us. Sadly, it is often easier to recognize that they are not than it is to write a new chapter.

Changing the plot starts with creating some space and time to allow the beginning of healing. If people cannot interact without an exchange degenerating into an argument, they need to take a time-out. Once some calm is introduced, the parties must decide if they are prepared to transform the relationship into something that provides more comfort than pain.

Each person must recognize the need for healthy boundaries. Every one of us has core ego needs - to be respected and acknowledged. When we can see through the layers of pain and distrust, we recognize that we all seek similar goals in life - happiness, love, meaning, health, peace.

We are at an important evolutionary juncture. We need to decide what is more important to us - being right or having peace. If being right is our priority, we'll never have peace, for to be right requires an opponent who is wrong. Our antagonist, of course, takes a mirrored stance, holding us to be the evil one.

It is the nature of the human mind to see life in terms of duality - good and evil, aggressor and victim, strong and weak. As long as the Cartesian concept of, "I think, therefore I am," permeates our collective mind, our differences will predominate over our unity. As we expand our identity, recognizing that "I am, therefore I think," we can honor our diversity and our universality. Our beingness can take priority over our beliefs.

The commitment to peace has no "buts." Once made, it reaps rewards in our bodies, minds, relationships and communities. A culture of peace is the only course to soothe our personal and collective pain. It starts with how we treat ourselves, our partners, our families and our neighbors. It is a practice worth cultivating.
