What is PABA?

Today we got an inquiry from one of our customers on ebay asking us if our suncare products are PABA free. I was really wondering what PABA means and what's the connection of this to our sunscreen products.
PABA- Para-aminobenzoic acid; a crystalline para form of aminobenzoic acid that is part of the vitamin B complex, is required by many organisms for the formation of folic acids, and is widely used in sunscreens to absorb ultraviolet light or is a B Complex vitamin that is synthesized in the body. PABA is used in the formation of Folic Acid and the metabolism of protein. It is an antioxidant that helps to protect skin from sunburn and cancer.PABA supplementation may help return gray hair to its original color if the change was caused by either stress or a nutritional deficiency.PABA deficiency is often caused by sulfa drugs.
I was surprise that it also helps cure Female Infertiliy. Female Infertility means the inability to become pregnant due to a problem in the woman’s reproductive system. May be hormonal or caused by blockage within the reproductive system. PABA supplementation appears to increase the ability of some infertile women to become pregnant.
Our SPF 4, 8 and 15 products are PABA free because it sometimes irritates sensitive skin.
